"My mother showed me how to
paint when I was a child.
Although always surrounded by artists in my youth,
I did not want to go to the art school myself.
I went to Amsterdam to study Art History at the University instead.
To study art by books only, I missed the presence of the object,
the material and the maker.
I never stopped painting.
After finishing my studies in
Art History I was involved in a few art projects.
Visiting artists studio's, running an art gallery,
the urge to paint grew more and more.
As a painting art historican,
with a lack of practical knowledge,
modelling made the story complete.
I learned a lot by watching the painter work
while he watched me as his model.
I met my friend and partner Edwin
Hagendoorn as a painting model.
We started working together.
Since then, painting became my life."
