Books have always accompanied the biography and the work of Carolu Ruf, first of all as a bibliophilic passion, later mainly as artistic material. Since 1992 she has made books the topic of an artistic sequence, both in their actual existence and in their medial function - a sequence which developed parallel to a both pictorial and three-dimensional work process. In both cases, paint and material are arranged in layers in the artistic procedure.
